There was no reason for you to lose any data.
You should have backups (irrespective of the OS you use) because
something can always go wrong.

data, or at the very least for your home directory (or directories)

This is still not working.
I downloaded the plugin from Adobe's website and followed the HowTos.
It seems to work initially but the browser remains unstable and crashes
