I'm having exactly this same problem when installing ubuntu 8.04 LTS
server (alternate CD) in both normal, and expert modes.
It boots perfectly fine from the CD-ROM but when it gets to the stage of
detecting and mounting the drive, it fails with the error "No common CD-
ROM drive was detected"

confirmed bug.

i just installed the vncserver package from the command line using "sudo
apt-get install vncserver" I went to run the package at 1024x768 screen

Using Kubuntu 22.04, and this bug is present. The temporary workaround
given above has the wrong directory for the symlink. It should be
/usr/share/sddm/themes/ubuntu-theme
