I had the same problem, but I fixed it by building octave3.2 from
source. However, I think you need libfltk1.1-dev not ftgl-dev (I didn't
even have ftgl-dev and it worked).

Looks to be fixed at some point between 2010 and v. 3.6.0.
Big-endian display of "12 34 56 78 9A BC DE F0" is correctly interpreted
as 5.626349e-221.

This affected my until I turned "force aspect ratio" off. Then, it works
fine, except that the video scales with the window, so it gets stretched
out for the default window size (though it looks good when the waveform
is active).
