Banshee 0.13.2 is an outdated version, and development has stopped on
that branched. The current version of Banshee is 1.4.1, and as of 1.0,
it had been rewritten from ground-up. I think the only really feasible
way of fixing this bug is to backport Banshee from Ubuntu Intrepid at

The reason it's not happening with Rhythmbox, as far as I can tell, is
because Rhythmbox updates the existing notification if the song changes.

On systems with iwlwifi drivers, there is a "wmaster0" device. When both
eth0 and wlan0 get disconnected, netspeed-applet falls back upon
wmaster0. This is quite irritating, as wmaster0 doesn't show any data

Actually, could you try clearing your Banshee settings and trying again?
First close Banshee, then run these two commands:

Ah yes I see it too. It would be good to forward this upstream, noting
that the Rating stars in the notification area menu as well as the Edit
menu don't show up properly, but in the right click menu that apears
from songs, it appears well.
