Running 16.04 Ubuntu MATE 16.04 Beta 1 updated through today, and in a 1 CPU VM with 512 Mb RAM there is no lag at all. 15.04 has reached end of life and 15.10 will be obsoleted in July 2016. Suggest the original poster test with 16.04, perhaps the problem is resolved permanently there. -- You
