I tried the fix above, but it didn't work on my M90. I assume the
problem described here is the same as the one mentioned in the forums
with the title: "nVidia 177 driver does this...". There is a picture
linked to the post that shows what happens to my laptop.

Hmm...I don't have that file in /etc/modprobe.d. I have the file options
listed above and this is the one I entered the option line. Are you
recommending that I create the file nvidia-kernel-nkc or are you saying
that it should be there now?
Thanks for your response and any help from here on.

OK, thanks. I changed nvidia to nvidia_new in the options file. Hope

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. Here is what I put into the options

Any problem with that that you can see?

I found this from Kraptor in another thread (164589) dealing with
flicker:
1) The file nvidia-kernel-nck:
- You use the 169.12 driver, so it os the nvidia-new driver, it must be
specified correctly.
- You must tell the driver it is a mobile card, if not the PerfLevelSrc may
not work.
More info, if it helps:
-I used to experience the "blink" problem addressed in 164589. This no

Thanks. I have a huge amount of empty space on my hard drive. It seems that
the /boot folder is too full, however. Is there an easy way to clean up the
old stuff here, or should I just delete most of the older files?
Thanks for the help,
Geoff

Thanks for you help. I did that by hand and then the apt-get upgrade worked
fine. When I tried to upgrade to 10-10 in the package manager, though, it
didn't work. I saw some postings concerning the same error message I got
where someone said the remove the nouveau packages and then they were able
