I seem to have this problem too
Seems to be related to Compiz/fgrlx
Almost everything just prints white to the screen. The only things that
are visible are my cursor and application icons when I press alt-tab (I
can see the compiz visual alt-tab window switcher is working, just a

I think gaim/pidgin's notifications not being attached to the icon is
possibly intentional. A lot of people signing in in a short space of
time (or multiple accounts) could be very distracting and are less
likely to get in the way if they are in the bottom right

I think this is just because of gnome-session's current crappiness... dying on

Could be wrong though

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: apport-gtk
Rather than just a bouncing “progress” bar apport really should tell the user
how much of the debug data it has uploaded.
So the user can decide whether to wait around for it to finish, or leave it, or
even cancel if it is going to take too
Sorry, but I can't reliably reproduce the crash (I think it's caused by
gnome-session (which is currently crashing on login) anyway as I said),
and I don't really want to run gaim under valgrind constantly until it
happens again.
