Well, KDE5 is buggy and has a lot of regressions which are not getting fixed
for months.
Probably a "walkaround" would be downgrade of KDE to stable KDE 4.*.
It's a shame, that Kubuntu took this not-ready-kde5 as replacement for
KDE4 in mainstream.

I have Kubuntu 14.10 with 3.16.0-28 kernel and the issue still exists.
When I choose 3.11.0-20 during boot in Grub - 2560x1440@60Hz works perfectly
without any xorg-config changing.
But versions 3.11.0-22 and 3.16.0-28 support only up to 1920x1200@60Hz or
something like that.
