or remote addressbooks/contacts, especially if you use a VPN to connect
to mail. I notice that if I dont have my VPN open (i.e. I am using only

The fact that this sorry argument has been going on is good evidence
that the Linux community still doesnt fully "get it". Users dont expect
to have to create their own templates and put them in the right place.
They just expect them *to be there*. It's really not a big dealt to have

I have a new installation of Jaunty on a Toshiba M40. I have all of the
problems listed above:

I have totally blank consoles (tty 1-6). My boot screen works OK. I do

you either see a black screen or the background (I cant remember), then
as the shell respawns after a second or two the windows reappear and the

stable When you say it is "less frequent" do you mean crashes have gone
from every 5 mins to every 10 mins, or do you mean to once every few
hours?

OK so I've added the ppa and updated (which installed/upgraded about a
hundred packages!) and I've had one shell crash (recovered OK) only in
the last 45 mins, which is very much more stable than it was. I would go
so far as to say it's now usable, but will report back in a day to see
if it stays l
As a workaround when the shell wont restart after a crash, and leaves
your windows dead and unfocussed, go to Terminal and File->New profile
create a profile called "Restart shell" and create. In the properties
choose "Run a custom command instead of my shell" and enter the command
"gnome-shell --r
I see that in the "unsafe" section of Mint updates (i.e. level 4 & 5)
there are some xorg updates and a new kernel. Has anyone tried those to
see if they make any difference?

I also have this on a clean install of 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro
M40. Hibernate works OK but wont resume from suspend. Disk activity for
a second, but blank screen and laptop needs battery removed to do hard
