Upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 - login loop every single time - login
screen showed up after a black screen blip. Shows a cl login prompt
with the "correct" login ID name that disappeared right away.

Thank you Bartosz: Reloaded 10.10 and noted even with HDD disconnected,
I am asked for a login/password from LiveCD. Is there supposed to be a
password on the LiveCD? Working on build/install/attach at this time.

Let me rephrase my question -
My HDD was subjected to every data removal option short of scrap yard
Electro Magnet or Low Level Format, and after repeated reloads from
disc's and internet update and upgrade

Loaded 10.10 from update/upgrade process (very time consuming), and Live CD.
Same symptoms.
I expected to use Ubuntu Desktop after providing a Correct Password.
Instead, after briefly seeing a desktop almost completely appear, the display

both xorg.0.log files look the same to me except for probed value of
VideoRAM which matches BIOS changes.
I have nothing in the AGP slot or PCI slot, all video is handled on the
motherboard. I don't know if it is significant that the log appears to
me to be setting values for AGP.
