Firstoff after reporting that problem I modeled my program to not use QFileInfo
anymore because it didn't work, but reading your post I changed it to use
QFileInfo again (of course this is not the same code as back then). Now it does
work without problems.

Just to add this: in the dmesg there is a line saying 'readonly' that
might possibly confuse somebody. The reason is the external hdd
simulates both a cd drive as well as a hdd - the simulates cd drive only
contains windows-drivers. The actual hdd was mounted read-write and

Sorry at time of posting [#31] I had not yet tried kernel in post [#27].
Now tried it and cannot say if it fixes it or not - simply because it
won't boot anymore with that kernel installed (last thing that appears
on screen are some apparmor messages, but they don't look like errors)

Hi, tried to do as it says in your guide but as soon as I want to start it with
the gdb it tells me gnome-settings-daemon is already running.
If it crashes or I kill it manually with killall gnome-settings-daemon it seems
that it restartes itself before I can start it with debugger attached

Don't think it's related but the day this got released my Natty stopped
working. Tried everything, all kernels, fallback settings for x,
reconfiguring my xserver to use radeon instead, removing fglrx (I could
start without x) and so on. Nothing worked - back to 10.10 for now.

The primary problem is that it has trouble accepting a password after

Sorry to have to say this.
Just printed all these very same documents to the very same printer from
Windows 7, and it went beautifully: 182-page pdf, 41-page pdf, 20-page
pdf, 128-page pdf, 18-page pdf - all printed straight off, without a
hitch, as soon as the printer was plugged in.
Thanks for looking at this, Michael. I'm not on that machine, so I can't
give you a copy of any logs.
I can tell you that the ghost window that pops on and off is debconf.
The same problem occurs on another machine also installed with the same
version of Xubuntu last week. So it is possible to re
