To fix this, you need to make a modification to the Human-Theme package, and the gtk2-ubuntulooks package. In gtk-ubuntulooks package: the ./usr/share/themes/Human directory should be renamed to somthing else, like /usr/share/themes/Human-Ubuntulooks the conrol file line Replaces: ubuntu-artwork

I recently found out that it is a duplicate bug, this happened in gutsy. The terminals work fine, the display however, dosent. adding these modules fixed my problem vga16fb fbcon (add them to your /etc/modules file, at the bottom I am using a Nvidia 6600 GTX, that is soon to be a dual 280 setu
