Public bug reported:
I am pretty sure that this is an old bug re-incarnated but I do not find
the problem described in terms that seem completely similar. I am
running ubuntu 9.10. using Nvidia 185 driver on an i7 cpu and asus mobo
with out over-clocking anything. The hardware seems good. Here i

In other words, the suggested xorg.conf changes do not help -- the
problem certainly seems to related to server version as opposed to
generic.
Also, another clue, when the system suspends (I suppose it is going into
ACPI S3 mode) the xserver display seems to not wake up. So possibly the

Two more clue for this problem. When I switch from X to VT back to X,
the keyboard still works to the extent that if I momentarily press and
release the power switch and then press enter, the machine will power
off exactly as though the power off pop-up was displayed (the default
position is on s
I removed the nvidia-glx and nvidia-settings. I then killed gdm and

I now have a Xorg log that shows the error. Lines 317 through 325 are
repeated when I switch from the X display to a Virtual Terminal (VT)
and back these lines appear. When switching back to the X display, it
is shown for a very short period of time and then goes away (the monitor

One other thing, it may very well be a fluke but the last time I
encountered the problem, I was tinkering with the game bioshock under
wine.
