This bug still exists on 3.17.1-031701-generic #201410150735
As a workaround you can unbind and bind the xhci drivers -
http://www.geekdevs.com/2010/04/solved-unable-to-enumerate-usb-device-
disabling-ehci_hcd/. Instead of ehci_hcd, I used xhci_hcd and USB
started working again.

Still no solution yet for me as well. I noticed the disconnections don't
happen on a 802.11g network. It happens only on 802.11n networks.

I have two USB - one is inbuilt my laptop which uses driver rtl8723be, and
another netgear USB adapter which uses driver rtl8192cu.
Both of them are dropping the connection.
I tried #55 and now 8192cu doesn't load at all rendering my USB adapter
useless. rtl8723be seems to be better. Connection
