I have tried two times to install Ubuntu Karmic Remix (June 19 version)
on my Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa). Both times the installer fails at the
end of the installation. It says "grub-update fails" fatal error.

Here you go. I just update the kernel again but still no sound. I also
did the module-assistant -l 2.6.22-14-generic auto-install alsa #
builds: 1.0.14-1ubuntu2+2.6.22-14.41 and it did not make the sound work
either. I sure hope this is fixed by the 18th or else they should move
the go live date.
Here is some information for engineering. While my sound would never
work from the updates, I did a fresh install once gusty was available
and my dell latitude d800 sounds works fine.

the above crashes resulted from clicking on a link that had an open
document file associated with the link. It is supposed to launch open
office when i do this but instead crashes the browser. it does it every
time so you should be able to duplicate it. hope this helps.

Here is another problem. When I get an email with a photograph attached
and click to download it, the browswer opens a window with nothing in it
and just hangs.

OK--Maybe some good news. In preparing the answers to your questions I
switched the theme from Crux to Clearlooks just to see what would
happen. Now the browser appears to be working properly when i click an
attachment to download it. I will report back if anything changes but
for now it appears
Yes. If i switch back to Crux the problem comes back.

When I launch writer it shows the bar loading writer up be freezes with
the launch screenit never opens the application. I have the lastest
updates in Gusty.

i have the latest hardy--alpha-3 with updates on my macbook pro (santa
rosa). my screen scrolls sluggishly even though i have the nvidia
