Hmm, was comment 9 tool failure, our PEBKAC? Here is what I actually
tried to type in the comment field (and is still in that field if I go
back in my browser history):
Since downstream isn't chomping at the bit to test this, I'm going to go
ahead and ask for review now. I've at least confirmed wi

Since others in this bug may not have seen it and it would have saved me
some Googling, the commit in http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives
/intel-gfx/2010-May/006948.html seems to be the source of the problem.
After reverting that commit, an otherwise vanilla 2.6.34 kernel works
for me on an E6510
Just tried a vanilla 2.6.35.4: the display still fails to turn on at all

a9daaec5a40d572d11f689edac5cb1710c998b1e (this is the same behavior as
2.6.35). And I still get a blank screen after a suspend/resume cycle

'xflock4' which is how I first ended up with a black screen unable to
return to the desktop. If I press the power button and hit 'suspend' I
get the same thing.

In case it helps anyone who's a total newbie like me, install
xscreensaver. It will take over the blanking and switching off of your
screen as well as allow you to lock the machine when it times out (tick
"Lock Screen After" on the "Display Modes" tab). That seems to work for
me.

Is it just me or does Ubuntu 15.x seem basically deserted and

So is this actually fixed now? My only way to find out is to risk having
to reinstall the whole OS.
