In the past, I had come to the conclusion that this was a hardware

linux). I apologize for not closing the bug sooner.
It was quite strange that it popped up with a distro upgrade.
Equally strange is that is has now gone away
I'm changing this to incomplete, because I'm not sure if there is a bug

still there, you probably need to add info / experiment on how to repeat
the bug consistently.
Take care!

Hi Jason,
Its my understanding that the new version of clutch was a bit of a rewrite,
with the most significant change being that it has built in web serving
capabilities. Before, you needed to install clutch, transmission, a web
server, and then configure it. That may be what that script was

I was talking with Derek on IRC about this, where I agreed, and I've had
a change of heart regarding this issue after reading this:

It seems like that an update is not the only way localstore can get
corrupted, and it looks like the ff people regard
I got this too. Slightly disturbing since it happened while upgrading
libc6, which AFAIK is a critical binary.

I don't know if this is a single bug, but I was brought here via

Binary package hint: gedit
I don't know why, or if any other folder is affected. But, I tried to
open a few files in /var/lib/dpkg/info/ and they all caused the cpu

A condition for this to happen is that gedit must be closed prior to

You can try `sudo apt-get autoremove`
The original kernel when you first installed may not get removed this

I'm guessing that the update-manager is trying to do a distro upgrade, and
synaptic is just doing an upgrade
Try these to check:
sudo aptitude -d safe-upgrade
sudo aptitude -d full-upgrade
See if each of those commands reports differing numbers of packages.

h, well, I tried to install intrepid in a vm a little while back,
and I found it to be broken as far as package dependencies are
concerned. I think each of those programs resolve dependencies in their
own way, so that might be leading to the differences you see. Your
system might be broken.
I can confirm the additional breakage that Pablo is describing. I will
file an upstream bug report.
