Happens to me too on 7.10 final, with or without desktop effects. It
takes about 30-40 seconds to login. This was not the case in Feisty.
Starting the very first application is also significantly slower than
used to be. Everything after that is fast, as usual.

I can confirm that this happens on Gutsy final, with or without compiz.
I also have an ATI card (with restricted drivers turned off).

I get this too, with the same setup. It looks like ad-Orig-read-file-
name requires a string as an argument, which acts as a prefix in the
mini buffer. Something like "Save file in: ". I'm not sure what changed
and where to fix it, but I hope this helps.

I have a similar problem, except unplugging and pluggin the mouse back
in doesn't work. I observed this problem in Edgy and in Fesity with a
single difference. In Edgy I was able to run the following script to
restore mouse functionality:

rmmod ohci_hcd
modprobe ohci_hcd
In Feisty run
Just tried 'acpi=force irqpoll' as boot. Mouse still freezes after a
while.

Note that unloading and loading back ohci_hcd worked in Edgy but
stopped working in Feisty.
