Found out today that the bug doesn't manifest in awesome window manager
- so it must be gnome or whatever window manager is default in karmic.

Confirmed. Nasty! I'm a java applet developer - I use
openprocessing.org - if you scroll on a page that has an applet, X
crashes and you go back to the GDM login. What a pain!

Just confirmed in Karmic + Java Plug-in 1.6.0_15 + Opera 10.10 as well -
it's not browser dependent. I didn't have this problem in Jaunty, but
it's possible my plugin was just slightly older.

This isn't the right place for this bug - where should it go? It happens
in Firefox AND Opera, and it happens only when you use the mouse wheel
or the scroll bars to scroll. If you use keyboard navigation on the
page, it doesn't crash at all. This leads me to believe that it's a
Karmic mouse or X p

The new gnome login screen has serious user interface problems that make
it impossible to perform non-default login operations without a mouse
such as restarting, shutting down, hibernatin
