Yes, this fits in with my experiences. When I first had this problem I
compiled a version of the driver that I knew worked correctly on a
previous install of Linux and it still didn't work with my current
install, so I concluded that somehow the server itself was doing the
wrong thing with the MGA

OK, I've done what you ask and I think I found the problem. At a certain
point in the detection of the keyboard layout it asks if specific
characters are present or at least accessible on your keyboard. Most of
these characters are from non-English character sets. However one key
can be in the Engl
I had to change the command a bit, but this seems to have fixed my VT.
This is what I ran:
# setupcon --force >& /tmp/setupcon.out
It seems that without the "--force" it complains with: "We are not on
the Linux console, exiting.".
The results in /tmp/setupcon.out are:

A caveat here is that the fix only worked until a reboot, it's back to what it
was before.
So I'm still looking for a permanent fix to this issue.

I just tried something. I enabled in the KDE the Keyboard Layout, changed
nothing else and everything works fine when in KDE.
What is strange is that without clicking enable the grayed out keyboard
allocation was correct, just clicking it on fixed the issue in KDE.
However, when I switch to a VT

Edgy, read the 4th and other messages in this bug. This has been broken
forever. I'm a developer, so if nobody is working on this bug point me
in a direction and I'll take a look at it myself. As I intimated I don't
know this architecture at all, but I do know C and Python very well.

Confirmed, if you kill kdesktop then restart it the screensaver begins
to work. I found I had to put a sleep between the kill and restart like
this: killall kdesktop;sleep 1;kdesktop&
The restart also gave me these errors which may or may not have any
significance:

In my case this did nothing. I've had the "monitor power saving" on all
along. Also commenting out the wacom entries from /etc/X11/xorg.conf
caused me not to boot into X at all, so I put them back.

I'm having this same issue on my eeepc 900. When this happens the wifi
usually stops working also. If I boot from a USB stick everything works
fine. libpulse0 is installed, but removing it will uninstall much of
KDE, so I doubt this is a feasible option.
Any ideas of a fix here?
