Alright, the problem really seems to have disappeared. I have the module
loaded now, without any problems. However, I won't be able to test if I
can watch TV now since I currently don't have any TV signal source
available (not even a small antenna :-( ). But judging from the logs, it
should be work
Ok, this bug is still an issue, as I just figured out. I forgot that I had this
workaround:
In /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, I added the line:
options saa7134 disable_ir=1
This disables IR support for the TV card (duh), which makes the
backspace problem disappear, but of course, I can't use the
As a suggestion: If this bug can be reproduced on other systems and
can't be resolved until the next release of Ubuntu, IR support should be
disabled by default for this module.

I finally found out how to reproduce and work around the problem: I have
a Pinnacle PCTV Pro card installed, which has an IR remote control.
Ubuntu therefore automatically loads the saa7134 module at startup. When
I blacklist that module, the problem disappears. So the problem is
obviously

disabled under System -> Administration -> Users and Groups. May need
