I report the same problem with (K)ubuntu 8.10 on MacBookPro 5.1. The only
difference is that here just the right channel works, while both left and
central do not. Moreover the volume mixer has some more oddities, basically
channels switched between them.

i'm also affected by this bug in Kubuntu 9.10 amd64 and with NVidia sound
device.
yes, it appears i got pulseaudio installed too, but so many KDE packages depend
on it... i really cannot remove it!
any suggestion?

i should also add that the KDE error message pops-up here only now and
then, usually after a logon. when this happens, VLC and flash do output
sound correctly, while Amarok is mute.
