Randomly my setting of the touchpad on my Dell Latitude D830 change. For

I can confirm this bug with my BIOS password set. It s a Dell D830 running
Ubuntu Hardy with 2.6.24-19-generic.
i have to try without bios password set...

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with latest updates and th "proposed" packages.
When i am loading the 2.6.24-21-generic kernel and rund hdparm -tT i get
something like this:
/dev/sda:

Timing buffered disk reads: 98

Update:
With the latest updates, the two versions get closer to each other. The generic
kernel now makes sometimes more than 40MB per second while the server kernel is
getting down to under 60MB per second.

sorry i tried to reproduce the kernel panic, but i had no "sucsess".
maybe that was in combination of this very very old wlan PCMCIA -card which i
was trying to connect to.
i do not have this pcmcia card available now but i will have it again on monday

Ok a colleague found out, that the user which is running update-
notifier must be part of the admin group. If i add this group to my
system and put my user into this group, update-notifier works fine. But
on our systems there is noch admin group, even after a fresh install.

group. We configured /etc/security/group.conf accordingly and now it
works flawlessly.
