I have an additional 2 machines that have the same issue. One removed
libnet-perl during the upgrade to 7.04. The other is a clean install
(no upgrade) of Feisty.

I just ran into the same 2 GB limit issue after performing a clean
install of Ubuntu 10.04 and attempting to restore files from a OSX (Snow
Leopard) share. The file that fails is 2.8 GB in size and gives an
"invalid argument" error when reaching 2 GB.
I did some testing to see if the issue is ope
File size limit removed by editing the file /etc/smb.conf on the OSX
machine and removing ",darwin_streams" from the line :
vfs objects = notify_kqueue,darwinacl,darwin_streams
So it seems that named streams on OSX 10.6.3 shares are causing the 2 GB
size restriction in this instance.

Pedro,
I did not test on Maverick as requested but the issue has been corrected
elsewhere. I just transferred a 4.1gb file from the same OSX box that
does have the complete line "vfs objects =
notify_kqueue,darwinacl,darwin_streams" in the smb.conf file of OSX.
The issue *may* have been corrected
