You mean the indicator applet is always coupled with the volume applet?
That would be a strange decision, what do these two have to do with each
other? I use neither evolution, nor gwibber, so I don't need indicator
applet, but I definitely would like to have a volume applet on my panel.

Yes, I am not using indicator applet, this could be part of the problem.
If I add indicator applet, then battery is part of that applet. My
libappindicator0 is 0.0.14-0ubuntu1.
By comes and goes I mean that it shows up and vanishes in cycles of
about 1min. This and the extra space is the problem.
Btw, it probly shows up when it updates and then vanishes after a couple
of seconds and additionally moves to the left.

Yes, running byobu-config outside of byobu works. It's just that the

@pyramid: In current lucid with all updates, open "Appearance" and
choose a classical theme (e.g. human or dust). Then it should move the
buttons to the right. If not, please comment on bug 533758.

I have this also at the start of Kmail and I still get the "MySQL server
failed" message (akonadi-server 1.3.1-0ubuntu2). The most annoying part
of it is that if I hit "Cancel" at the akonadi message, then it quits
Kmail!

One workaround for this would be to use the standard indicator applet
session and remove the MeMenu by uninstalling the package indicator-me.

I think you should not have wicd and GNOME network manager installed at
the same time. Try uninstalling one and keeping the other. See also bug

@bornagainpenguin: if the instructions don't work for you, maybe there
is some other problem in your case. I noticed that some similar
problems can occur if you have two different network managers
installed. Did you install another network manager other than GNOME
network manager?

Yeah, since the new indicator applet has no tooltips atm, they would
have to be added somehow, and nobody has done it yet. Maybe this is a
better explanation than the philosophical twists about why "less is
more". :)
