Thanks for your bug.
There is the Synaptics TouchPad util which seems very similar to what you
require.
In Ubuntu, install gsynaptics. In Kubuntu, ksynaptics. You should find you can
then add the applet to your panel.
Let me know if that resolves what you want.

Hi David,
Brilliant useful post, thank you! I have not tried yet, but it sounds
exactly the same, so I am hopeful your solution will work for me.
I also had the locale en_CA issue with Kicker, so these problems all
seem related somehow.

This issue does not relate to Ubuntu as it is cross platform. I have not
been able to reproduce it in Firefox 3 (32bit).
It sounds like a bug with msnbc.com, rather than Firefox. However if
there is a genuine browser bug, it should be addressed to Mozilla
developers at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org
Hi,
Check that your user permissions on
/home/kawika/.inkscape/preferences.xml are correct. I have seen
configuration file permissions get changed in an Ubuntu update before

cd ~/.inkscape

I've also resolved it. The particular files involved differed from those

The solution was:
sudo chown all files mentioned by David Knippers to your own username.
My settings still would not save.
