When you try to change the volume up,down or mute, it takes a while to
react, then changes the volume, but always to maximum or minimum. After
that, nothing can be selected. Clicking on menus at the top (Application
etc.) turns them blue as if they've been clicked on but no me
Update: on trying it again, i realised that the keyboard completely
locks up, cannot type or use shortcut keys. however, if you ctrl-click
on a link on Firefox, it still opens in a new tab!

I think I suffer from the same bug, I've found that a package called
hibernate in synaptic (or "sudo apt-get hibernate") works for me. Then
in the terminal just do "sudo hibernate" (I have to do "sudo hibernate
--force" as my nvidia modules do not unload but all seems fine on
resume)

I also had this problem, and found a workaround which is a little hard
and dirty!
I edited to grub.cfg file (had to change it from read only and edit as
root) after backing it up and commented the lines in a small 'if' code
so that they didn't run.
The code originally read:
if [ ${recordfail} =
running "apt-get install -f" as root force installs the update and seems
to work fine after this
