This has been driving me nuts. Evolution and Kmail beat Thunderbird
hands down when it comes to all things mailing lists.
The problem is, I otherwise like Thunderbird better, so I stick with it.
I'd love to see this patch make it into Edgy, but I fear it's too late
at this point.

That doesn't "solve" the bug it's just a workaround. And not practical
for a new/inexperienced user.
The bug remains. Also, I've been doing that (deleting .gttkrc2.0) for
months now). :-)

I've observed this problem in Ubuntu since I first started with Hoary.
I'm now running Dapper. I stopped using Ubuntu's version of Firefox
some time ago as a result.
If you want an even faster version than Mozilla's own, try out Swiftfox

To make sure it wasn't Mozilla that removed this, I downloaded the
Mozilla version of Tbird 2.0.0.6 and it indeed does offer a UNIX
(Movemail) local account
I played around with this some more. Among the things I did uninstalling
(purging) hal and reinstalling.

When burning a 16x DVD-R no options for setting the burn speed are given
beyond 6.2x.
I prefer to burn discs at a high speed but not the highest (to avoid
coasters).
Typically I'll burn a 16x disc at 12x.
But the highest speed choice

I forgot to mention that if I use Gnomebaker or k3b, I can burn at any
speed that the drives are designed to handle. They do just fine with
most 16x DVD-/+R media at 16x (although I usually drop it back to 12X as
previously stated).

I don't know if this is related, but for some strange reason Kopete
*insists* upon running my TV Tuner card for no apparent reason. This
slows Kopete's startup to a crawl.

I'm running Hardy in a virtual machine (VirtualBox). I decided to
switch from the generic to the virtual kernel.
AFter rebooting I found I had no sound.
If I reboot and select the generic-kernel, sound returns.
