I reported this bug to nVidia, and they find it's an Xorg error in Ubuntu's
implementation. Their comment is:

Sure. It was noticed first by nVidia users. Not too surprising since
multi-monitor users are probably disproportionately nVidia users.

truly unfriendly, with multiple registrations, and a request to self-

Launching a tcl program like tkcvs or even wish kills X within a few
seconds and I get returned to the gdm login screen.
Again its under 10.10, and the display is quad screen using twinview and
Xinerama.

After some testing (and reporting to nVidia as well) I can report:
1. nVidia 260.19.04 is also vulnerable
2. Xinerama is the culprit. No problems with twinview and no Xinerama (2
separate dual head displays).
