I am suffering from this same problem. Using 8.10 Final. The workaround
fixed everything - but it took me forever to find this bug report. This
needs to be updated in the repos soon.

Confirmed in Intrepid. I get the error message "Segmentation fault" when
running in the terminal. The window pops up for maybe .3 seconds before
it closes.

The problem is solved, it was something unrelated. I was unaware that
8.10 now uses "FDI" files for configuration.

I'm experiencing this bug (as far as I think) on Ubuntu 8.10 with
Evolution 2.24.1 and Mail Notification 5.4. I enjoyed this
program/plugin very much on Ubuntu 8.04 with no problems.

Off topic (the topic being sound...), but are desktop effects working on
the Latitude D630? Last time I checked, there was a problem playing
videos with desktop enabled.
