Agreed. It's also a big problem when:
- User A logs into the machine and connects to network
- User B logs into the machine
- User A or user B puts the machine to sleep
- User B wakes the machine but can no longer connect to the network, user A has
to log in for this to work.

don't know if this will help, but while searching for a solution for
bugs lp:335297, i find that they're now a official patch upstream for
2.6.29+ concerning the logitech mouse which are detected as elantech
touchpad.

Concerning the ps/2 mouse which get recognized as Elantech touchpad,
it's apparently a know kernel issue, and only affect some logitech
mouse.

Hi,
don't know if this will help, but as I'm affected as well. After boot
(linux-image 2.6.28.8.8) keyboard is working, mouse not (logitech usb
connected via converter on PS/2 port, so PS/2).
But, forcing psmouse proto to imps get my mouse back:
sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imp
