I'm experiencing the same issue on a new U160-0894 (i5-470UM, working Turbo). I've tried current (Thu Oct 28 15:22:13 PDT 2010) versions of the fixes/next/staging branches to no effect. To be clear: Backlight is on, no output appears once the i915 driver loads. External monitor works fine. i915.mo
