Thank you for the comment, apologies for my late reply.
I think it was disconnected loop device file that I initially configured
with lxd init. loop image was disconnected (perhaps by apt update or my
activity) and when I was looking to get lxd / lxc service running up I
missed the original lxd st

also with my laptop after upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04.
I had another problem already in 14.04 with wifi device driver when it used to
drop link some time after not being used - I had to use RF key on keyboard to
make it up again. But back to this bug...

this is possibly duplicate of bug #1961606, sorry
if it makes the difference to the reported issue I experience the bug
only when right clicking text links. When I right click images or image
links or bookmarks etc. it renders the menu as expected
