Hi Dien Matthieu,
Well, when I did a “sudo apt-get update” there was no more error but in fact,
when updates are available, if I look at the details, the dpkg error is still
there (sorry if my explanation is a little bit confused)... Any ideas?

Hi Michael Gilbert,
I'm glad to see the status change from “Confirmed” to “Fix released” but there
is no change for me. Is there anything I should do to repair alien-arena?
Thank you for your help.

Solved!
I have found a solution here
(http://corent.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rookie&action=display&thread=6667&page=2).
Simply make sure the “/home/username/.config/alien-arena” exists and then copy
both the “botinfo” and the “arena” directories from
“/usr/share/games/alien-arena” into it.
Hi,
I created a new user on my system to make a test and miraculously, the three
different graphical environments (Gnome classic, Gnome and Unity) work
perfectly! So it mean that I have no hardware or driver problem but a huge
problem of configuration. Unable to find a comprehensive list of all
If this can help you Raphael, here are some tests I did and didn't work:
1. Remove (from another root session) files “.Gnome”, “.Gnome2”, “.Gconf”,
“.Gconfd”, “.Metacity” from my home: not enough, the problem persists.
2. In command line, execute:
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get remove unity
Maybe see this report for details...

No, I haven't filed a bug about my problem and I will not do it, I will rather
continue tracking forums to try to find which file/folder was at the origin of
my trouble (because I still have the problem on another session of my
computer). Regards

Hi,
Maybe the same bug. After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 by the Internet :

on the left and some troubles,

Hi,
Today, I think after running “unity –replace”, I have the same trouble as
describe by Raphael Camus. In my case, it was not even necessary to delete the
~/.local/share/applications folder, deleting the metacity.desktop file was
sufficient.
Hope this may help.

Well, to delete “metacity.desktop” file only, solved the problem for
Gnome classic, but when I connect with Unity, no dashboard and no
launcher. I had to delete also “gnome-*.desktop” and “compiz.desktop” to
find both Gnome and Unity functional.

Maybe you could try this solution (found here:

Install “gnome-tweak-tool”, start the tool and go to “Theme”, then change the

Hi Dien Matthieu,
I'm really an ass... The problem I encountered to use your solution was that,
for me, the error message refered to “/var/lib/dpkg/available” (and not
“/var/lib/dpkg/status”). I think it's solved now. Thank you very much and sorry
to make you lose your time. Regards

Hi Dien Matthieu,
Thank you for your help.
On my computer, when I run “sudo sed 's/Version: v1/Version: 1/' <
/var/lib/dpkg/status.sav / > /var/lib/dpkg/status /”, I have the message “bash:
/var/lib/dpkg/status: Permission non accordée” (French for "Permission
denied"). Any idea?

Yo
Bingo Dien Matthieu!
After running these commands lines I tried a “sudo apt-get update” and there
was no more error. Thank you very much and congratulations!

It is also reproducible in “Gnome” and “Gnome classic”. As supposed by
Colin Law, seems to have no relationship with the window manager.
