FYI
I have reinstalled to Ubuntu 9.10 and I have no problem with suspend.
Before i restored I also tried to run from a Live CD Ubuntu version 10.04
LST and I had the same problem as I had with the 10.04 installation...

I have updated my IBM Thinkpad X41 to Ubunto 10.04 LST I have the latest
version of BIOS installed and Standby/Suspend did work perfectly before
I upgraded to 10.04 LST.
The problem that I see is that every time that I either close the lid or
use the menu to Suspend/Standby,
make it better.
