Compiz only switches to AIGLX for itself (and anything run after it from
a terminal if you started it there). If you were to start compiz, then
open a new terminal window you'd see compiz doesn't do anything system-

Do not tell ezoom to hide the real mouse cursor, it makes all animated
cursors size 1x1 until you restart X (even if you switch to metacity).
This is a problem with the X server.
