Based out the 'Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".' output
in your .xsession-error files this is either a problem with your driver
or a bad configuration in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Your Xorg.0.log says this: (II) GLX: no usable GL providers found for

That message appears because the i965_dri.so file is missing from your
system. Can you make sure the libgl1-mesa-dri package is installed and
if so reinstall it?

Oops, looks like you fixed the problem while I was digging into your log
files. :)
That package is not strictly required to be installed so it probably
shouldn't be a dependency but it should have gotten installed somehow.

If you run with gksudo you're running a full GUI app as root for no
reason _and_ causing a bug because the .nvidia-settings-rc file will be
saved for the root user instead of for the user running the app so
setting changes they make that _don't_ write to xorg.conf will not be

You are certainly welcome to advise them of your workaround for this
bug. I just don't believe such a thing should be added to the package.

Actually, once a quick 'fix' like this gets implemented there is zero
motivation to work on the proper fix and it'll probably never happen.
Either way, it isn't up to me since I don't handle this package.

Sorry, the patch I submitted was for scrolling on the workspace
switcher, not dragging. Either way, the upstream bug makes it clear that
is a problem with libwnck.
Back on topic, this particular bug is trickier. The upstream bug was
marked as a duplicate of the bug about dragging not working so I'

Has anyone tried using the version of compiz that used to work with the
version of everything else that doesn't work? Basically intrepid's
compiz with jaunty everything else. Pretty sure there is nothing compiz
can do here so that would still not work.

Also, does this happen if you enable metacity compositing or kwin
compositing? The post on the compiz mailing list describes how compiz
has always worked, not some recent change. It's the way that all
compositors work.

Just so people know (and sorry for the spam) every single duplicate of
this bug is probably actually a completely different problem. Crashing
in doPoll just means something went weird in compiz that didn't trip it
up until the next time it went through this function. I'm not sure how

So we copy instead of hard link in that case. In the common case it
still does the job and doesn't waste any HD space.

Nope, it was an nvidia-based laptop. I actually don't have the hardware

Making this change would break more than it would 'fix' as you either
have to choose to use the Super key to open the applications menu or
choose it to be a modifier for a large number of other actions.
Currently the code does not support both and it would not be a trivial
change to fix this so thi
I don't think this screensaver-settings app is the right approach unless
we want to diverge from upstream GNOME forever. Therefore this bug is
not trivially fixable, so it does not qualify as a paper cut.

Not sure if this should be a paper cut or not. In order to not have to
maintain patches that break on every compiz update we have to disable
features to fix this bug or wait for some large infrastructure work so
compiz can know where the mouse is at all times without polling for its
position.
