I have just installed Ubuntu 8.10 2.6.27-9 on Dell inspiron and now have no
sound. If I run up 2.6.20-17
Sound is fine.

Is my face red ? I have just brought up the volume control and pushed up
the volume on PCM and front and now I have sound. Now I thought I had tried all
that. just shows to go you. Write everything down. I am happy :-)
but a little confused.
