(jpeg) is to execute kview. But on kubuntu the kview application is not
installed, gwenview is.
I suggest to alter the default configuration so it works for a default

I can confirm this. I have traced this a little and I believe this is what
happens:
Upon bringing up static network devices quite early in the boot process, the
script
/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate
is executed which first stops ntpd, then calls ntpdate and then starts ntpd.

is not packaged and therefor my new nvidia based card which requires this
library fails.

Shortly after booting I get a screen about scsi hardware detection and the cd
stops booting.
I waited a minute or so before I had to use the power button to turn it off.
The laptop responded to the alt-F1 etc buttons just fine in this time (but I
didn't find a prompt ;)

Doing a suspend calls 'vbetool dpms off'
this command (also when called from a konsole) just takes CPU and never

I have a laptop with Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
There is a kernel module to support this card named snd-hda-intel
After installing kubuntu I got alsa to detect a sound card; which, well, makes
(proper) sound.

I just realized another thing that may be relevant; there are speakers
on this laptop, but I have never heard them. The only way to listen to
the audio is via the headphones (mini-jack) connector.

Booting from the kubuntu edgy (i386) installer cd I click on the 'Install' icon
and fail to format as reiserFs.
I then do fdisk and mkreiserfs from a konsole and restart the installer.
Unfortunately the installer refused to let me
as the original reporter, the feature in kwin to manage the konsole window size
makes this one obsolete and frankly, its a fringe feature request anyway.
Lets move on :)
