Thank you Joseph, the upstream kernel from months ago was the cause of
the issue. I had completely forgotten about it being there and did not
recognise the change in version numbering as significant.
I followed the steps outlined in http://askubuntu.com/a/594484/109072 to
remove the kernel and a
@jarnos mentions having generated a script to remove extra kernels.
There is already a purge-old-kernels command line tool lingering in the
bikeshed package.

Thank you Chris. I suppose it is more a question for Robert Roth as he
seems to have marked this bug as Fix Released but apport seems to think
I hit it yesterday morning.
On my second attempt to add the printer things worked. This is not
blocking me but it feels wrong to leave infrequent crashes
I switched to a new machine. Ran a similar set of code and everything
was OK. I was using the same USB TV Recorder and the same version of
MythBuntu. My apologies for not replying to this thread earlier.
I beleiver this can be rejected on the basis that it was a hardware
fault with my system.
Nothing has turned up on the longer memory test either. I think the
hardware (at least the CPU and RAM) are OK.

The first 4 error reports suggested that they were duplicates, so I have

have raised a 2nd ticket in case it gets more debug added automaticall
Out of the many error report windows that popped up, only 1 suggested it

debug information in it.
Looking over the how to triage page, I can see that checking
I completed 1 pass of the memtest test set without any errors being
recorded. I'll see about running a longer test cycle soon in case it

My Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit system had just rebooted after installing

Raising a new bug after discussions on Bug #1494804 suggested that this
was a different issue as the one documented under #1494804 originated in
15.10.
I don't know what I did to stimulate the problem. An error report
