I have installed a fresh Ubuntu 8.04 desktop (the normal GNOME-based
version). I then added xubuntu-desktop and all of its dependencies from
Synaptic so I could log in under XFCE4 as a different user (also
creating the user, of course). When I log out or switch user, then log

Problem: When scrubbing around in the Sequencer (Alt+A), Blender starts
chewing up CPU and does not stop, even when I stop scrubbing. It
consumes an entire CPU (100%).
I have attempted to run blender with the '-d' debug flag, but it gives
