I also would like to give you a little background:
I originally installed 14.04 as part of a dual boot
system with Windows 7 Professional as the other
part. I then decided to go with 14.04 entirely,
so I used an install DVD I

A LITTLE MORE INFO -
1) I tried to boot in recovery mode but I was unable to do so.
2) The problem is intermittent - I just rebooted and there are
no missing letters.
