Title:
Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9
Ok so I managed to get through my dependency woes. I figured out that
there are two packages that are architecture agnostic and those .deb
files are only on the i386 files so I got the kde-workspace and kde-
workspace-data .deb files from there and all is now good.
So now I have kde-workspace 4.9.
I installed Mesa 9.0 20120903 from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/mesa/9.0~git20120903.e1673d20.is.git20120821.c1114c61-0ubuntu1
and I experience the same slowness and artifacts on that.
So I won't try the other git snapshots since the bug was clearly
introduced before 03.09.2012.

There is a bug report on this in the KDE bug tracker as well:

Hi. Just checking up on this... it's my understanding that this is just a
matter of adding the model name to a source file really and from what I can see
this hasn't been done:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git;a=blob;f=sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c;h=bb93f927f7be97ac7280c
Hi.
I decided to give fixing this a shot and it worked. So here is a patch
that I've verified that works on my setup:
diff --git a/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c b/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c
index 739f968..18fce01 100644
--- a/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c
+++ b/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c

Ok I guess it's better to send this in as a file and mark it as a patch.
So here it is.
** Patch added: "Adds a line to the quirk table for Lenovo T430 to enable audio
on the Ultrabase docking station."

Hi.
I've tested this and it works fine. Please submit the SRU request.

No audio from headphone jack on Ultrabase Series 3 with ThinkPad
So just out of curiosity, what versions of the kernel will this go into?
3.5? or only 3.6/3.7? Will this be an Ubuntu patch for the 3.5 kernel?
I'm basically just trying to ask whether I'll see this in the official
kernel for 12.10 at some point?

To manage notifications about this bug go to:
I'm having this same problem on my Lenovo T430 and Ultrabase Series 3.
OS: Kubuntu 12.10 beta 1 (also tested on 12.04 and it behaves the same).
The workaround mentioned above (adding the model=thinkpad line to alsa-
base.conf) does _not_ work in this case.
Should there be a new bug or is this re
I'm not sure if this helps or not but I think I have the same problem in
Kubuntu 12.10. I'm attaching a screenshot of how it manifests for me.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 and I'm using the i915 video driver.

A bit more information which I again don't know if is helpful.
The desktop effects seem to be generally "slow". For example, maximizing
and minimizing windows is very jerky.
However, if I switch from using OpenGL as the "compositing type" in
"System Settings" -> "Desktop Effects" -> "Advanced" ta
So what's the plan here? It seems that this is serious enough to do
something about it before the release of 12.10.
I'm mostly curious but of course I'd also like to see a fix for this
sooner than later but what are the options? I imagine that waiting for
an upstream fix is out of the question (if
