Thanks Mike, I can verify that your workaround is working. This was a
quite annoying bug the last few weeks.
I had the same problem (runlevel unknown, cups not starting) on one of
our office computers. Commenting out "console output" in all the files
in /etc/init apparently solved the problem for
This bug happened to me as well when I had nautilus-bzr installed. After
uninstalling it and restarting nautilus the bug disappeared.
