The above solution works for me as well. For the sake of others some
more details:
- open /boot/grub/menu.lst
- find the line starting with "# kopt="
- do not uncomment the line, but append "acpi_enforce_resources=lax"
- save and close
- run update-grub
- reboot

Unfortunately, hibernate does still not work.
Could this be connected to a swap space problem? I have 4GiB of RAM, and
2x 2GiB of swap space on /dev/sda4 and /dev/sdb4. For some reason, sda4
is not mounted during startup. The first hibernate in this log was done
with only 2GiB of swap mounted, and
This is my /proc/meminfo (after manually issuing a swapon -a). As
SwapTotal is larger than MemTotal, I think the swap space should be
sufficient (or not?).

I can confirm this with the most recent version of grub2. Having three
RAID 1 partitions (on sda and sdb), I briefly get a "biosdisk read

I installed fglrx via jockey in karmic, and then disabled this
proprietary driver again due to an underscan problem. After a reboot,
the fglrx driver is removed (also the underscan problem is gone), but
the whole display shows strange green and purple colours.

following your request I just checked with the latest mainline kernel,
2.6.32-020632rc1. The behaviour is exactly the same, a "modprobe it87"
will only succeed if the kernel boots up with
acpi_enforce_resources=lax.
But as Hernando wrote in post #2, this is the expected behaviour now.

After trying several combinations and playing around, I found that my

Same issue here, with the only difference that kino so far worked fine
in Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid. After the update to Maverick I have exactly
the above symptoms, so i would see this as a regression.

This seemed to be an issue already back in 2008, and is caused by the
pulseaudio output. The workaround is to run kino from the terminal as
"padsp kino".
