I have the same problem with an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT on Ubuntu
Intrepid (64 bits). My laptop has a 1280x800 display and an external
screen 1440x900; the image appears cut off (the bottom and the right
parts are black) and replacing compiz with metacity fixes it. I have set
