thats not a bug in the new package, its a problem with the old one. the old
initscript is broken so uninstallation fails on trying to stop the daemon in

script before upgrading
$rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/xenner.prerm

i've tested it on karmic without any problems, the rebuild corrects the

$ apt-show-versions xenner

its still the old package. remember, you need to
$rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/xenner.prerm
before upgrading.
the reason your still getting the errors is that the initscript is
failing while trying to remove the old package. this causes the upgrade
to fail and the old version of xenner to restart, show
good stuff, if you want to test it out for a bit and see if theres any
major problems that would be great. if it seems working enough i'll
subscribe a motu and see about getting it into karmic

Winff startup warning about access violation and possible data corruption
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/521818
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Bugs, which
looks like unit1.pas fails in some functions on an empty presetname.
i'll put a check in on that in the crash places but there may be a need
to look out for more :). I've no idea why this affects i386 but not
amd64, although it does affect amd64 when using gdb, strange..

winff (1.2.0-1ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low
* debian/patches/empty-presetname-fix.patch:
- unit1.pas causes an access violation when trying to use an empty
presetname. This checks for an empty name and avoids accessing it.
(LP: #521818)
** Patch added: "winff_1.2.0-1ubuntu2.debdiff"
looks like at least one of these changes is in svn upstream so it should
be reasonable. unfortunately there are still more problems on i386 only
so the previous debdiff wont work on that :(

this clears the original error (if added in both places as in the debdiff) on
i386 and running gdb winff on amd64.

i'm looking into lazarus svn to see if this could be the issue, theres
been changes to gtk2wsstdctrls.pp and the calls that were causing the
problem seem to no longer exist

i might look at fpc 2.4 from debian/sid too, its unfortunately a rabbit

using 32bit on a virtual machines so its a bit slow so hopefully someone
will spot the gtk2wsstdctrls.pp:513 error before then :)

good to know, i'd made the changes before looking at svn so it wasnt a costly
mistake. the changes in themselves are reasonable, and do fix a bug, but i do
get the feeling theres a more core problem. the fact only i386 is affected is
probably a clue. i'm guessing that some other bug has only exp
just to add, winff 1.2.0-1 works fine in debian sid i386 so it might be
a ubuntu only thing, maybe newer gtk version and so on

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Bugs, which
theres a few logic problems with formtop (and maybe formleft?) in unit1.pas
where its tested for >0 but hasnt been initialised so it should really have a
value set before the if statement tries to get a value for it. but i think your
right, its an issue of what relevant libraries ubuntu is using
rebuilding lazarus with the commit 23695 then rebuilding winff using
this 'fixed' version of lazarus solves the problem here. if someone
could try it out on i386 to verify?

i'd probably open a new lazarus bug and attach a debdiff with the svn
fix in it as its not specifically related to winff
i'm not seeing any other crashes at all, everything seems fine at the
moment though i havent tested too much. if you find some steps to
reproduce the new adding file crash i'll
sadly i dont get any problems with either the lazarus-ide/lazazrus-src or winff
from my ppa doing what you describe so i cant really be any help here. i guess
maybe gdb or valgrind might help show up any problem.
it looks like theres a sync request in for lazarus and fpc 2.4. it doesnt look
