Same problem here on Averatec 3700 series.
I guess the problem is that X uses the BIOS for modesetting and the
Averatec BIOS reports 1680x1050 (max resolution of graphics chip) as the
highest possible resolution and not 1024x768 (max resolution of panel).
Usplash suffers from the same problem and
I just put the following file in /etc/network/if-up.d/ and made it
executable to fix this problem.

pstoedit writes temporary files in CWD and this fails if CWD is not
writeable.

3. print document in evince
4. close evince immediately

On an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R61i the integrated Intel graphics chipset is
shown twice. One time using the "intel" driver and one time using
"vesa".

happens. Nothing appears in /var/log/messages.
However, after running lsusb, the mouse is detected and enabled.
