Very hard here to see where is the problem since the libraries are
there, ldconfig does not seem to fail and the package seem correctly
installed. I can't see any other exemple of this problem in Google, so
that's unusual. I'm pretty sure that the problem is not gnucash itself
but something broken
(However if you find more information about the problem and that it's
not caused by accidental damages on your ubuntu installation, this would
be very interesting to know).

Confirming. I get the same bug each time that I install a new linux
kernel and reboot. On first boot, usplash does not appear at all (I only
see the console). If I stop ubuntu loading with sysrec + b, the computer
reboots and now show a wide red corrupted screen instead of usplash, if
I reset again

not change with different kernel.

I tested rhythmbox_0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.1 and the bug isn't
reproducible anymore. I see no regression and it's possible to copy
to/from the device without any problem.

bug 285323 describes a similar issue and a known workaround is to kill
gnome-power-manager by typing "sudo killall gnome-power-manager" before
changing volume with FN keys. Does that work for anyone?

Indeed, this bug was not fixed in intrepid beta LiveCD. Would be bad if
