I tried doing an apt-get update / upgrade before trying again and this
time installation finished. I thought it might be a fluke so tried the
same thing again and even with the updates, the installer still crashed.
I don't know if it's related, but I've had a couple of installer crashes

I have an Asus P5B motherboard with a PATA DVD drive and a SATA HDD,
both of which are attached to the JMicron controller on the
motherboard. I can get an Ubuntu Edgy daily (I last tried the 7th
October build) to install but upon rebooting, Grub rep
My understanding is that the fix has been uploaded but has not been
released yet. Once it's released it should make it into the next days
daily build. I'm not sure what happens between the fix being comitted
and being released - I'm guessing there's some sort of code review that
takes place before
Yep, the changelog references this bug so fingers crossed for tomorrow's
build :)

I think the Grub error may actually be a problem with Grub not
recognising the JMicron controller, which is actually a different bug to
this one. I've filed a bug report here:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/64574
I've tried the daily alternate CD for today (11th October) and my drive
attached to the ICH8 wasn't recognised. I'm guessing the fix hasn't made
it into the installer's kernel. I would try the live CD (I usually have
better luck with it (touch wood ;) as I think it has more up to date
packages) but
A couple of things: firstly, I think bug 63314 is a duplicate of this
one. Secondly, the last daily live CD I used actually found my network
card and set up my network connection automatically... however, the
alternate CD for today (11th October) is still not detecting the NIC.

Thanks for all the work on this problem and the feedback.
